Man Struck and Killed by Vehicle on Highway 99 near Merritt Drive in Traver

Traver, California (April 10, 2020) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances that lead to a fatal pedestrian accident Wednesday night in Traver.
The fatal collision was reported on April 8, along Highway 99 south of Merritt Drive.
As per the CHP report, the accident happened when a 2009 Honda operated by an 18-year-old Visalia man in the northbound lanes of the highway blew off the back left tire at approximately 7:42 p.m. A 2009 International semi-truck driven by 41-year-old Richard Vargas then hit the Honda driver while standing outside his car.
The primary report indicated that the Visalia man had stopped on the right shoulder of Highway 99 north to inspect his Honda at the time of the collision.

Sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the crash site.
Pending notification of next of kin, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed.
Vargas, a Visalia resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected factors in the accident. An investigation into the crash is underway.
