Thomas Sullivan Among 3 Injured in Calaveras County DUI Accident on Highway 4 near Calaveras Big Trees State Park
Calaveras County, California (April 20, 2021) – Thomas Sullivan, 61, of Dorrington, was among three people who were injured Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Calaveras County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The major injury collision happened at around 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, on Highway 4, just west of Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
According to the CHP, a 2006 Honda Civic, driven by Brooke Buchanan, 21, of Merced, was heading westbound on Highway 4 when, for unknown reasons, the Honda crossed over the center median into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an eastbound a 2004 Ford F-250, driven by Sullivan.
Major Injury DUI Crash on Highway 4 in Calaveras County
Sullivan suffered minor injuries and was transported to Adventist Health Sonora. A passenger in the Honda, Dominic Appleby, 21, of Merced, was also taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries.
Buchanan sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment before being booked into jail on suspicion of DUI causing injury.
The CHP said Buchanan and Appleby were not wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred.
The crash remains under investigation.
