Stockton, California (December 13, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday evening in the area of Leesburg Pl and West Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deadly pedestrian accident took place at about 6:56 p.m. Thursday, December 12 at the intersection of Leesburg Pl and West Benjamin Holt Drive.

The CHP said the pedestrian, a 71-year-old woman, was walking in the area when for an unknown reason, she was hit by a pickup truck.

Authorities said the woman was found unconscious in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the pickup truck did stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene.

It is still unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Further details regarding the accident were not immediately available.

The CHP is investigating the accident.
