Selena Araiza Killed in Lompoc Car Crash on Highway 1 near Santa Rosa Road

Lompoc, California (February 19, 2020) – The woman who was killed in a deadly head-on collision on Highway 1 near Lompoc on Friday evening has been identified as Selena Josefina Araiza, 24, of Santa Barbara, the authorities said.
The crash happened near Santa Rosa Road at about 6:20 p.m. February 14.
CHP said Michael Hanson, 55, of Lompoc was driving a 2005 Honda S2000 northbound on Highway 1 when, for unknown reasons, he went off the right side of the road. The Honda then careened back across the traffic lanes and collided with an oncoming 2015 Nissan Sentra that was being operated by Joseph Hernandez, 27, of Santa Barbara.

Araiza was a passenger in the Nissan and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The crash caused the closure of Highway 1 in both directions as officials worked at the scene.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
