Pedestrian Killed in Santa Maria Accident on North Broadway

Santa Maria, California (July 16, 2021) – A pedestrian died after being struck by an alleged hit-and-run driver, 34-year-old Alfonso Vazquez Gomez, in Santa Maria Saturday night.
The deadly crash happened in the 500 block of North Broadway at approximately 11:20 p.m. on July 10.
A man, in his 60s, was crossing the road from east to west when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Gomez south on North Broadway for undetermined reasons.
Due to the impact, the pedestrian was thrown into the left-hand northbound lane of the highway, where he was hit by two other northbound automobiles.

Sadly, the unidentified victim died in the accident.
As per the Santa Maria police report, all involved motorists, including Alfonso Gomez, escaped the crash site without rendering aid to the victim.
Vazquez, a Santa Maria resident, was later found and arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run resulting in injury/death to a person and driving on a suspended license for a prior DUI.
