Santa Barbara County, CA: Car Crash on Highway 101
CHP Officer and Civilian Injured in Highway 101 Accident near Highway 1 Off-Ramp

Santa Barbara County, California (February 21, 2019) – A California Highway Patrol officer and a civilian were injured Thursday morning in a traffic accident in Santa Barbara County, according to a local news source.
The crash occurred at about 7:45 a.m. on Highway 101, just north of the Highway 1 off-ramp near Las Cruces.
The California Highway Patrol said the officer was heading to help with several traffic accidents on the southbound side of Highway 101 and was waiting to make a U-turn in the center median.
A Ford F-250 was traveling southbound when its driver lost control and narrowly missed crashing into the CHP vehicle. A Toyota Yaris was traveling directly behind the F-250 when the female driver lost control, drifted into the center median and struck the front of the CHP vehicle.
The Yaris came to a rest blocking the left lane on the southbound side of the highway and the F-250 came to stop on the shoulder of the northbound side of Highway 101. According to the CHP, both drivers were driving at unsafe speeds.
The driver of the Yaris and the CHP officer sustained minor injuries.
The crash caused the closure of the far left lane on each side of the highway for hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
We hope that those injured get the medical care necessary to have a full recovery.
