10-Year-Old Child Killed, Rubi Rubio and 4-Year-Old Child Injured in Palm Springs Desert Crash on Highway 86; Pablo Becerra Arrested

Palm Springs Desert, California (January 4, 2019) – A 10-year-old child was killed and two other people were injured on New Year’s Eve in Palm Springs Desert, according to a local news source.
The horrific accident happened just after 11:00 p.m. Monday, December 31 on Highway 86.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Pablo Becerra, 36, was driving a 2011 Ford Ranger at 70 mph on Highway 86 when he hit a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier occupied by Rubi Sanchez Rubio, 30, a 10-year-old and a 4-year-old.
First responders performed CPR on the 10-year-old child for 45 minutes, until paramedics arrived. The child did not survive and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Rubio suffered a head injury while the 4-year-old child sustained facial cuts. Their conditions at this time remained unknown.
Becerra complained of chest pains. He was arrested by CHP officers on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The CHP said Becerra was driving at 70 mph and was unable to stop in time because of his unsafe speed for road conditions and drug impairment.
The crash remains under investigation.
