Santa Cruz, California (January 11, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a Sunday night traffic accident that killed a 28-year-old woman from San Jose in Santa Cruz.

The deadly single-vehicle accident happened at about 9:45 p.m., on January 10, on El Rancho Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2013 Volkswagen Golf, driven by Jesse Lemol Vong, 30, of San Jose, was headed southbound on the roadway at a high rate of speed.

Vong’s Volkswagen veered off the roadway, struck a wooden utility pole, and continued to go up a dirt embankment where he hit a tree, the officials said.

Sadly, the 28-year-old woman, who was the right-front passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vong, who was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, suffered major injuries and was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
