Yolo County, California (January 28, 2019) – The man who was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision in Yolo County has been identified as Romeo Mendez-Lopez, 40, of Richmond, according to the Yolo County Coroner’s Office.

The deadly wreck happened at around 6:50 a.m. Friday, January 25 at County Roads 19 and 92C.

The CHP said a 1996 Honda was traveling westbound on County Road 19 when it crossed over a double-yellow solid line in an attempt to pass a 1996 Chevrolet that was traveling westbound.

The Honda ended up colliding head-on with an eastbound Ford driven by Bonnie Zentner, 57, of Esparto. The Ford was then pushed into the Chevrolet.

Paramedics responded to the scene and took both the driver and Mendez-Lopez who was a passenger in the Honda to Kaiser Health Care in Vacaville. Authorities said Mendez-Lopez later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital while the driver survived.

Zentner also sustained unspecified injuries in the crash. Jesus Morales, 40, who was the driver of the Chevrolet, was not injured.

An investigation into the crash is underway. Anyone with information regarding this accident is urged to call the CHP’s Woodland office at 530-662-4685.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mendez-Lopez. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult period.  We also wish those injured a quick recovery.
