Santa Cruz, California (January 2, 2019) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a car in Santa Cruz on Monday evening, December 31.

The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Roberto Garcia of Watsonville.

According to a local news source, the fatal collision occurred on Highway 1 near 41st Street at about 5:45 p.m.

The authorities said Garcia exited his disabled car which was partially blocking the southbound lanes of the roadway.

He was allegedly running across the northbound lanes of the roadway when he was hit by Subaru.

Garcia sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information was provided.

An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is underway.
