Robert Zapata Identified as Man Killed in Pacoima Car Crash on San Fernando Road near Osborne Street

Pacoima, California (January 7, 2019) – The coroner’s office has identified the man who was killed in a fatal two-vehicle collision that happened on Sunday morning in Pacoima.
Robert Zapata, 43, of Sylmar died in the crash that happened in the 10100 block of San Fernando Road near Osborne Street next to the Metrolink rail at about 9 a.m. January 6.
According to a preliminary investigation, a white vehicle drifted into the path of oncoming traffic and collided with a vehicle driven by Zapata.
The force of the crash caused Zapata’s vehicle to crash through a fence. Firefighters responded to the accident and pulled out Zapata, who was trapped in the vehicle.
Police said Zapata died at the scene of the crash.
The 73-year-old woman driving the white car sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles at the time of the accident.
The crash caused a 10-minute delay in the Metrolink rail service between Antelope Valley and Lancaster as the white car was being pushed from the tracks.
The Los Angeles Police Department is working to determine the cause of the wreck.
