Riverside, CA: Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on 60 Freeway near Market Street
Driver Killed in Riverside Car Accident on Pomona (60) Freeway near Market Street Tuesday morning
Riverside, California (August 19, 2020) – A fiery multi-vehicle crash has claimed the life of a driver early Tuesday morning on 60 Freeway in Riverside, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.
Shortly before 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, the CHP officials received a report about the accident in the eastbound lanes of Pomona (60) Freeway, just west of Market Street.
As per the CHP press release, a Ford Ranger traveled on the freeway when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into the center median.
The vehicle rolled over and ejected the driver onto the freeway. A short time later, a Ford F-150 crashed into the Ranger and burst into flames.
The force of the impact pushed the Ford Ranger into the No. 3 eastbound lane and was hit by a semi-truck. Moments later, a Honda Civic collided with the F-150. That impact caused the Honda to catch fire.
Deadly Accident on 60 Freeway near Market Street in Riverside
The driver of the Ford Ranger was transported Riverside Community Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been diclosed pending notification of family.
The other drivers were treated at the scene, but none was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Authorities closed the eastbound 60 Freeway due to the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
