Richard Plasch Dies Days After Being Hit by Vehicle on J Street in Niles
Richard Plasch ID’d as Man Killed in Niles Hit-and-Run Accident on J Street 2nd Street

Fremont, California (March 17, 2021) – Richard Plasch, 81, of Fremont, has succumbed to his injuries Monday, six days after being hit by a hit-and-run driver in the Niles neighborhood in Fremont.
The accident happened shortly after 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, in the area of J and 2nd streets.
According to the authorities, Plasch was walking his dog in the area when he was possibly hit by a vehicle.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found Plasch lying in the roadway. He was treated at the scene before being taken to a nearby trauma center, where he was listed in critical condition.
On Monday, March 15, Plasch’s condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries.
A Surveillance video showed two different vehicles in the area. Police described one of the vehicles as dark-colored and possibly a minivan. The vehicle was last seen heading westbound on J Street toward 2nd Street.
The other vehicle was a “light pewter metallic (gray) or sunset gold metallic (gold), 1995-1999 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-door SUV. The vehicle was seen traveling westbound on J Street before possibly making a U-turn at J and 2nd streets. it then turned right onto Niles Boulevard and headed south.
