San Diego, California (March 18, 2021) – Randy Ferris, 65, was among three people who were killed after a vehicle crashed into a homeless encampment under a tunnel near San Diego City College Monday morning.

The fatal crash happened at about 9 a.m. March 15, under a tunnel known to shelter houseless individuals, located in the 1400 block of B Street.

Authorities said Craig Martin Voss, 71, was driving a Volvo station wagon on B Street when he lost control of the vehicle, which veered onto a sidewalk and plowed into the homeless shelter.

Ferris and two other people were killed in the accident.

Six other people were injured in the crash and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The authorities said dozens of people shelter under the tunnel, especially during rainy or gloomy weather.

Voss remained at the scene of the accident and was arrested. He faces multiple charges, including three counts of vehicular manslaughter, five counts of causing great bodily injury and one count of felony DUI.
