Santa Barbara, California (May 16, 2021) – Several people were injured in a collision involving a chase suspect in Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon, according to the authorities.
At about 12:20 p.m. May 15, a Santa Barbara police officer spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen near West Micheltorena and San Andres streets and started following it.
The suspect failed to stop for the officer, who tried to pull them over in the 1600 block of Bath Street and a chase ensued.
The suspect was driving recklessly northbound towards West Islay Street and disobeying traffic laws, hence the officer decided to stop the chase.
Several Hurt in Santa Barbara Collision
Shortly after, the suspect failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of West Islay and State Streets and was broadsided by an MTD bus heading south on State Street.
The man who was driving the stolen vehicle was transported to Cottage Hospital with serious injuries. Two teenagers were passengers in the vehicle and one of them was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The second passenger was uninjured.
Six people on the bus suffered minor injuries and two of them were taken o the hospital.
The driver of the stolen vehicle may face charges including DUI.
The incident is under investigation.
