Daniel Vega Injured in Patterson Crash that Killed 30-Year-Old Woman and 9-Year-Old Girl
Patterson, California (March 3, 2021) – A mother and her daughter died in a two-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday afternoon near Patterson, as per a local news source.
The collision also left 25-year-old Daniel Vega hospitalized.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victims were the occupants of a Toyota sedan that collided with a box truck at around 1:09 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5, south of Interstate 580.
As per the report, the accident happened when Vega was driving the Toyota in the fast lane, slowing down and starting to pull into the center median after the vehicle got a flat tire.
Distracted driving is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

According to 27-year-old Catarino Torres Jr., of Modesto, who was driving the box truck, he reached for something within his truck and looked away momentarily. When he looked up, he hit the right rear of the Toyota, shearing off part of it.
The report said a 30-year-old woman and her 9-year-old daughter, both from Bellflower, California, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Vega was hospitalized with minor injuries, and a 4-year-old girl in the Toyota was also hospitalized but was not injured.
Torres was not hurt, the report said.
The crash left all lanes except one closed as authorities investigated.
