Camp Pendleton, California (March 3, 2021) – The Navy service member who died following a traffic accident involving military trucks Tuesday morning in Camp Pendleton has been identified as Aaron Michael Fish, 26.

The deadly crash happened at around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, on Interstate 5, just north of San Onofre Inspection Facility.

According to the California Highway Patrol, five military trucks were traveling in a convoy southbound on Interstate 5 when one of the vehicles stopped abruptly in front of them, triggering a chain reaction collision.

The impact of the collision pushed one of the truck trailers forward into the cab, killing the driver.

Deadly Car Accident on Interstate 5 in Camp Pendleton

Fish died at the scene while his passenger was taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

Four other service members were transported to Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital and Mission Hospital in Orange County with minor injuries.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The CHP is investigating the accident.
