Orcutt, California (February 7, 2019) – A Santa Maria man was arrested in connection with a suspected DUI crash that left two men dead and several others injured in Orcutt, Santa Maria, on Thursday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 135 at Foster Road just before 6:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation showed that Gilbert Pena, 56, of Santa Maria, was driving a semi-truck southbound on Highway 135 when he, for unknown reasons, crashed into the rear of a 2009 Nissan. Four other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

Two men from Santa Maria, who were riding in the Nissan at the time, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Eight other victims were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

CHP said Pena was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

The CHP is investigating the crash.
