Oakley Police Officer and Civilian Hurt in Main Street Accident at Empire Avenue

Oakley, California (February 6, 2019) – A veteran police officer and a civilian were hospitalized Tuesday evening following a traffic accident at an intersection in Oakley, according to police.
The wreck occurred at around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 5 in the 2500 block of Main Street at the intersection of Empire Avenue.
Police said the officer was making a left turn onto Empire Avenue on his way to the Chase Bank on Main Street when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle.
According to the police, the officer was called to the bank on reports that somebody was attempting to break in. His siren and patrol lights were on.
Police said a person was later found trapped inside the ATM area.
The injured officer was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was treated for broken bones and later released. The unidentified officer has been with the Oakley Police Department for nearly 10 years.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital.
No other details were immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
