Madera, California (February 7, 2019) – The man who was killed Friday in a traffic crash that also injured two other people at a Madera intersection has been identified as Jose Mendoza, 81, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident happened at an unspecified time Friday, February 1 on Avenue 12 at Road 25.

The CHP said a 2005 Impala was traveling westbound on Avenue 12 at around 55 MPH when for an undetermined reason a 2012 Chevy Malibu heading eastbound, turned in front of it.

The Impala then hit the Malibu on the passenger’s side. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to spin around.

Mendoza, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene.

Both the drivers of the Impala and the Malibu were transported to Madera Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Alcohol or drugs were not suspected factors in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mendoza. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult period.  We also wish those injured a quick recovery.
