Oakland, California (February 17, 2021) – A pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles Wednesday evening at an intersection in East Oakland, according to a local news source.

The deadly hit-and-run accident was reported at about 6:10 p.m. in the area of 27th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

Authorities said the pedestrian, only identified as a man in his 60s, was crossing the street using a cane and carrying a shopping bag when he was hit by a silver car that was speeding westbound on Foothill Boulevard. He was then struck by a Chevrolet Volt that was heading eastbound.

Deadly Pedestrian Accident in East Oakland

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and performed life-saving measures on the man, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The silver car driver did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene. Authorities said the vehicle possibly acquired front-end damage in the accident and may have been racing another car in the area.

The driver of the Volt, a man in his 20s, stopped at the scene and was cooperative, police said.

Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call the authorities.
