Oakland, California (March 29, 2021) – A man died early Sunday morning following a traffic accident at an intersection in West Oakland, according to a local news source.

The deadly crash, which was reported at around 4:49 a.m. Sunday, March 28, happened at the intersection of Fifth and Market streets.

According to the authorities, a 32-year-old Richmond man was driving eastbound in the 800 block of Fifth Street when, for unknown reasons, his 2015 Honda veered off the road and crashed into a fence.

The Honda then struck a trailer container that was parked in a lot below Interstate 880 at Market Street.

The Richmond man, whose name was not disclosed pending family notification, died at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle, authorities said.

It was not immediately clear whether intoxication played a role in the collision.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
