Oakland, California (September 18, 2020) – A 35-year-old man from Antioch was seriously injured in a truck accident on Thursday morning in Oakland, police said.

The crash happened at about 7:45 a.m., on September 17, in an inclined part of the northbound lanes of the 500 block of Hegenberger Road.

According to the authorities, a 2007 GMC Xfinity van, driven by the 35-year-old man, crashed into the back of a City of Oakland flatbed truck in the southbound lanes near the off-ramp from Interstate 880.

The officers arrived at the scene, stopped the van from rolling down an embankment and put out a fire that had started following the accident.

One person who was trapped in the van was and was extricated by the emergency crew, the police said.

35-Year-Old Antioch Man Injured in Truck Crash on Hegenberger Road

The extricated victim, who was the van driver, sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the collision.

More details about the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
