Northridge Car Crash Sends 2 to Hospital, Shears Power Pole on 9800 N. Balboa Boulevard

Northridge, California (July 26, 2020) – Two people were sent to the hospital, one in critical condition, after a Northridge car crash that also left a power pole sheared off Saturday evening, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
The accident happened at about 6:32 p.m. at the 9800 block of N. Balboa Boulevard.
According to LAFD, an SUV and a white sedan were involved in the crash.

It was not clear how the crash happened at the time of the report. The SUV ended up flipping onto its side, and the sedan with its hood crumpled.
Firefighters said they had to cut through part of the SUV to free the driver who was trapped inside. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital on a stretcher in critical condition.
The driver of the sedan was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities said although the manner of the collision remained unknown, speeding is thought to have been a factor.
The SUV appeared to have smashed into a power pole, cracking it around its middle section. The pole was left hanging from the power lines above.
