North Park, California (May 24, 2021) – A bicyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon in the North Park neighborhood in San Diego, authorities said.

The accident occurred just before 4:45 p.m. Sunday, May 23, on Lincoln Avenue between Hamilton and Arizona streets.

According to the authorities, a 64-year-old man was riding an electric bicycle westbound in the eastbound lanes of Lincoln Avenue while a 29-year-old man was driving a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup northbound along the alley between Hamilton and Arizona.

The pickup reportedly stopped and then proceeded across Lincoln Avenue in front of the bicyclist. For unknown reasons, the bicyclist slammed into the side of the pickup.

Man Injured in Crash Involving Electric Bicycle

The bicyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries that included a fractured right ankle and was transported to a local hospital. His name and condition were not immediately disclosed.

The driver of the pickup was not injured in the crash.

No further details regarding the accident were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
