Santa Ysabel, California (January 10, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed and another was seriously injured Sunday evening in a multi-vehicle crash near Santa Ysabel, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened at around 5:00 p.m. on State Route 78 near Slaughterhouse Road, the California Highway Patrol Reported.

The CHP said two motorcycles were heading westbound on State Route 78 when, for undetermined reasons, one of them, a 2020 Honda dual-sport bike, swerved to the right side and off the roadway. The Honda then crashed into a rock, ejecting the rider onto the road.

The other motorcycle reportedly crossed over double yellow lines and collided with a 2003 Ford Focus that was heading eastbound. After the impact, the rider was ejected from the bike and landed on the road.

Deadly Motorcycle Crash on State Route 78 in Santa Ysabel

One motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was airlifted to a hospital with major injuries.

The Ford driver, a 71-year-old San Diego man, sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalized. He two passengers but were not injured.

The name of the deceased motorcyclist has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The accident remains under investigation.
