2 Hospitalized after Monterey Plane Accident at Monterey Bay Academy Airport

Monterey, California (February 9, 2019) – Two people were hospitalized Saturday morning after a small plane crashed in Monterey, according to authorities.
The accident happened at about 10:40 a.m. at Monterey Bay Academy Airport.
Authorities said the single-engine Bellanca Citabria was attempting to land at the airport when for an unknown reason it crashed.
The nose of the plane and left side were damaged when it ended on the runway next to a farm field. Firefighters responded to the scene and cut off the right wing while attempting to pull a female pilot and her male passenger from the fuselage.
Both the pilot and the passenger sustained major injuries and were airlifted to a hospital.
The National Transportation and Safety Board are investigating the crash.
