Michael Lieberknecht Arrested After Sacramento Crash on Jackson Road That Injured Motorcyclist

Sacramento, California (January 4, 2019) – The suspected drunk driver who caused a series of hit-and-run accidents that injured motorcyclist on New Year’s Eve in Sacramento has been arrested, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened at around 10:00 p.m. Monday, December 31 on Jackson Road.
The CHP said the suspect, identified as Michael Lieberknecht, 56, of Sacramento, was driving a 2013 Hyundai eastbound on Jackson Road when for an unknown reason he hit a Harley Davidson motorcycle near the Country Store.
Lieberknecht fled the scene and traveled eastbound direction on the westbound side of Jackson Road where he slammed into a 2005 Honda Civic. After that crash, Lieberknecht allegedly continued driving eastbound on Jackson Road and eventually passed the scene where another motorist had hit two deer earlier at 8:50 p.m. between the North Gate and the highway bridge.
A tow truck driver, who was on the scene to remove the vehicle, saw Lieberknecht’s car drive past and veered off the road where it rolled over and came to rest against the Country Club’s fence.
Lieberknecht was transported to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center with major injuries while the motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital. The Honda driver was unhurt.
Lieberknecht was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
No other details were immediately provided. The crash remains under investigation.
