Merced, CA: Fatal Alleged DUI Crash on West Sandy Mush Road

Merced, California (March 14, 2021) – A 17-year-old teen was killed in Thursday night alleged DUI accident that left at least two other parties injured in Merced, authorities said.

The deadly accident occurred at about 7:49 p.m., on March 11, on West Sandy Mush Road, just west of Combs Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1997 Toyota Camry, driven by Judith Nava, 40, of Merced, was traveling eastbound on the roadway when it drifted over to the right shoulder, lost control and rolled several times.

Following the collision, Nava’s daughter, the 17-year-old teen, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Teen Killed in Crash on West Sandy Mush Road

Sadly, the 17-year-old teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 22-year-old back seat passenger sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Nava, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of driving without a license, manslaughter and DUI causing significant bodily injury. Nava’s bail was set at $160,360.

The crash remains under investigation.
