Merced, California (April 8, 2021) – An elderly pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver early Thursday morning at an intersection in Merced, authorities said.

The major injury accident was reported at about 3:30 a.m. in the area of 16th and H Streets.

According to the authorities, a 75-year-old man using a walker was traveling down the street on foot when a possibly 2002 to 2006 Ford Mustang hit him.

First responders arrived at the scene and found the man lying in the gutter near O Street with major injuries. He was transported to a hospital in Modesto and is currently listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Mustang did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene. Police are still searching for the suspect.
