Mecca, California (November 3, 2019) – Five people were hospitalized after a major injury collision that took place Saturday evening in Mecca, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident transpired at around 6:37 p.m. on 70th Avenue, just east of Cleveland Street.

According to CHP, a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Chevrolet Tahoe were involved in the crash.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene to airlift Joann Fernandez who sustained major injuries. Noeni Lucero and three others were also hospitalized with unknown injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
