Bakersfield, California (July 21, 2021) – The man who died following a Saturday morning traffic collision in Bakersfield has been identified by the Kern County Coroner as Maurilio Heredia Herrera, 27, of Carson.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash happened at about 12:13 a.m. on July 10 on Highway 65 at James Road.

The CHP said Herrera was driving a 2003 Infiniti southbound on Highway 65 when he drifted into the southbound lanes to pass a vehicle.

For an undetermined reason, the Infiniti collided head-on with a 2011 Chevrolet that was heading northbound, driven by a Bakersfield man.

Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Kern Medical with moderate injuries.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
