Orange, California (July 21, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died Sunday afternoon following an alleged DUI crash at an intersection in Orange as Dean Lyles, 73, of Orange.

According to the Orange Police Department, the collision happened at around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, July 18, in the area of West Sycamore Avenue and North Main Street.

Police said Manuel Antonio Sanchez Contreras, 23, of Los Angeles, was driving a Honda Accord northbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the back of a Mazda Protégé driven by Lyles, who was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Main Street onto Sycamore Avenue.

Lyles was pronounced dead at the scene.

Contreras, who was unhurt, was arrested for driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.
