Mark Osborne Dies Days after Bicycle Crash on High School Road in Sebastopol
Mark Osborne ID’d as Man Killed in Sebastopol Bicycle Accident on High School Road near Gaye Road

Sebastopol, California (May 21, 2021) – Mark Osborne, 53, of Santa Rosa, has succumbed to his injuries Thursday, one week after being struck by a suspected DUI driver while riding his bicycle north of Sebastopol, Sonoma County.
The crash took place at about 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, on High School Road, just south of Gaye Road.
Authorities said Ulises Valdez, 27, of Sebastopol, was driving a Ram Rebel pickup truck northbound on High School Road when he lost control on a left curve and drifted off the right shoulder of the road, striking a 12-year-old boy riding a bike.
Ulises then swerved back into the roadway, then drifted back onto the right shoulder and collided with Osborne, who was also on a bike.
The pickup truck then went off the road and slammed into a utility pole and a tree.
Mark Osborne Dies in Sebastopol Bicycle Crash
Osborne and the other bicyclist were both transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries. The boy was later transferred to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland for further treatment.
On Thursday, May 20, Osborne’s condition deteriorated and he died from his injuries. The boy, whose name and current condition was not released, remains hospitalized.
Valdez was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries and later arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
