Sacramento County, California (May 21, 2021) – A traffic accident has claimed the lives of two people Friday night in Sacramento County and left five other people with injuries, authorities said.

The fatal crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of National Drive and Striker Avenue and involved two vehicles.

According to the authorities, a Mustang convertible was traveling westbound on Striker Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver allegedly ran a red light and slammed into a Chevy Malibu that was heading northbound on National Drive at approximately 50 miles per hour.

The impact caused the Mustang to roll over. As the Mustang was overturning, the two back passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

Deadly Two-Vehicle Crash in Sacramento County

The ejected victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and front passenger of the Mustang suffered major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.

A child and two women in the Chevy were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The names of the deceased victims and the injured parties have not been disclosed.

Authorities closed the intersection of National Drive and Striker Avenue following the wreck.

Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
