Los Alamos, California (June 3, 2021) – The motorcyclist who died Monday afternoon in a collision with a vehicle in Los Alamos has been identified as Mark Anderson, 52, of Buellton.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred at about 3:50 p.m. Monday, May 31, on the Bell Street off-ramp from southbound Highway 101, near Cat Canyon Road.

A 2005 Honda Civic, driven by Luis Silva Lopez, 21, of Santa Maria, was traveling southbound on Bell Street after exiting Highway 101, the CHP said.

The Civic then stopped in a driveway and attempted to make a U-turn back onto northbound Bell Street. The car reportedly traveled into the path of Anderson, who was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson.

Anderson applied his brakes and swerved to the left, but he lost control of his bike, which fell onto its right side.

Both Anderson and the motorcycle continued to travel a short distance and slammed into the driver’s side of the Civic.

Buellton Man Killed in Los Alamos Crash Identified

Anderson, who was wearing a helmet, was declared deceased at the scene.

Silva Lopez, who was wearing his seatbelt, was unhurt in the crash. Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the collision.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help cover funeral expenses for Anderson.

The accident remains under investigation.
