Santa Cruz County, California (June 3, 2021) – One of the two men who were killed Sunday night in a head-on collision near Corralitos in Santa Cruz County has been identified as Jorge Betanco, 33, of Freedom.
The accident took place on Corralitos Road, just south of Varni Road, on Sunday, May 30, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said a Ford was traveling southbound on Corralitos Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which drifted into the northbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Honda.

Betanco, who was in the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant of the Ford also died at the crash site.
According to the CHP, the driver of the Honda, a 32-year-old woman, sustained major injuries and was transported to a trauma center. Her current condition was unknown.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the collision.
The crash remained under investigation.
