Maria Nieves-Lopez Among 2 Killed in Gardena Crash on Artesia Boulevard and Vermont Avenue

Gardena, California (December 31, 2019) – Maria Nieves-Lopez, 39, of Lynwood was among two people killed in a crash involving a Tesla early Sunday morning in Gardena, according to Los Angeles police.
The incident was reported at about 12:39 a.m. December 29, in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.
Authorities said a black Tesla traveling at a high rate of speed was exiting westbound Gardena (91) Freeway when it ran a red light and collided with a Honda Civic heading west on Artesia Boulevard.

Nieves-Lopez and a second victim, 40-year-old Gilberto Alcazar-Lopez of Rancho Dominguez, were killed in the crash.
Another man and a woman were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
