Bakersfield, California (November 26, 2019) – The woman who was killed in a suspected street-racing collision on Sunday afternoon in Bakersfield has been identified as Maria Vianey Navarro, according to a local news source.

The crash was reported on Old River Road near Ming Avenue at around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, November 24.

Police said a Mustang, driven by Ronald Pierce, 50, and a Dodge Ram were street-racing on northbound Old River Road when the Mustang lost control and struck a van occupied by Navarro and two juveniles.

The impact caused the van to spin and was struck by an oncoming truck.

Maria Navarro Killed in Bakersfield Crash

Navarro, who was driving the van, was killed in the crash. Her two passengers were taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate-to-major injuries.

Pierce was taken into custody on charges of reckless driving, reckless driving causing injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and participating in an illegal street racing.
