Margarita Leyva-Alonzo and Gabriel Rufina Killed in Car Crash on Santa Fe Drive near East Avenue in Merced
Merced, California (November 5, 2019) – Two people who were killed in a head-on collision in Merced last month have been identified as 47-year-old Margarita Leyva-Alonzo and 50-year-old Gabriel Amaro Rufina.
According to a local news source, the accident happened at about 5:30 a.m. October 24, on Santa Fe Drive near East Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said Leyva-Alonzo was driving a Chevy Venture eastbound on Santa Fe Drive when she collided with a westbound Ford Crown Victoria driven by 43-year-old Charles Everett of Sacramento.

Leyva-Alonzo and Rufina, both residents of Turlock, were pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP said an unidentified male passenger in the Chevy was seriously injured in the crash and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Everett was transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Everett was later arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
No further information was provided.
An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is ongoing.
