Margarita Arellano Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 18 in Lucerne Valley

Lucerne Valley, California (July 9, 2020) – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office has identified the second victim who was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Lucerne Valley as Margarita Arellano, 67, of Lucerne Valley. 

The fatal head-on crash happened at about 6:44 a.m. Friday, July 3 on Highway 18, just west of Custer Road.   

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan Altima, driven by Albert Arroyo, 37, of Nuevo, was traveling eastbound on Highway 18 when, for undetermined reasons, the Nissan drifted into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming Mazda CX-5, operated by a 69-year-old Lucerne Valley man. 

Arellano, who was the front seat passenger of the Mazda, was pronounced dead at the scene. Arroyo also died at the scene.    

The driver of the Mazda was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Three passengers in the Nissan were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.   

The CHP said all occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision. Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident.
