Manuel Pantoja, Jessie Mendez Injured in Fatal Crash on Comanche Drive in Arvin
Manuel Pantoja and Jessie Mendez Hospitalized after Arvin Motorcycle Accident on Comanche Drive near Sunset Boulevard

Arvin, California (April 18, 2021) – Manuel Pantoja, 49, of Arvin, and Jessie Mendez, were injured Thursday afternoon after being involved in a deadly traffic accident in Arvin, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said the incident was reported at around 1:44 p.m. Thursday, April 15 on Comanche Drive, just north of Sunset Boulevard.
According to the CHP, a 2004 Chevy Suburban hauling a utility trailer was stopped on the right shoulder of southbound Comanche Drive when it tried to make a U-turn.
The Suburban reportedly turned directly in front of a 2010 Kawasaki EX250J that was heading southbound on Comanche Drive at an unspecified speed.
The motorcycle ultimately crashed into the driver’s side of the Suburban. The impact caused the rider to be ejected from the bike onto the roadway.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was transported to Kern Medical and was later declared dead.
The Suburban driver, Pantoja, and his passenger, Jessie Mendez, were also taken to Kern Medical with minor to moderate injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
CHP is investigating to establish the cause of the accident.
