Valley Center, California (March 18, 2020) – A man killed after a head-on collision that happened early this month has been identified as 85-year-old Hilton James, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly collision happened on Valley Center Road near Rincon Reservation on Tuesday, March 3, at about 7:00 p.m.

Officials said that a Ford Ranger operated by James was heading north on Valley Center Road when it veered into the southbound lanes. A Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 38-year-old Escondido woman was then sideswiped by the Ford before the Ranger crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 56-year-old Vista man.

Responding firefighters declared James dead at the crash site.

The Silverado driver and an 89-year-old Vista woman, a Silverado passenger, were hospitalized after complaints of pain.

Officials said that the Tahoe driver was unhurt in the crash.

No other information regarding this crash was provided.

An investigation is underway.
