71-Year-Old Mamlekat Joseph Dies in Long Beach Crash on Magnolia Avenue and West Third Street

Long Beach, California (February 9, 2020) – An elderly pedestrian died on Saturday morning when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Long Beach, according to Long Beach police.
The fatal crash occurred on Magnolia Avenue and West Third Street shortly before 11:16 a.m. February 8.
According to the report, Mamlekat Joseph, 71, of Long Beach, was attempting to cross Magnolia Avenue in a crosswalk when she was hit by a 2002 Bluebird Bus that had been traveling north on Magnolia and was attempting to turn left onto Third.
Mamlekat Joseph Killed in Long Beach Pedestrian Collision
Emergency crews responded to the incident and found Joseph trapped beneath the bus. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the bus, a 25-year-old Van Nuys man, stayed at the scene and reportedly cooperated with the investigators.
Police said alcohol, drugs and distracted driving were not believed to have played a role in the crash.
The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the incident.
