Crestline, California (January 7, 2019) – The woman who was killed in a fatal paragliding accident on Friday evening in the San Bernardino Mountains near Crestline has been identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.

Lua Pepper, 44, of San Bernardino died in the incident that was reported at about 5:14 p.m. January 4 near Playground and Summit drives.

Deputies said Pepper had just taken off near the Crestline Hang Glider and Paraglider Launch when she crashed into the mountainside.

The emergency crews responded to the incident and found that Pepper had succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was confirmed dead at 8:55 p.m.

It’s unclear what caused the paraglider to crash into a thick vegetation and approximately 700 feet down a south facing slope.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
