Leonard Smith Dies after Long Beach Pedestrian Accident on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue
Long Beach, California (November 6, 2020) – The man who was hit and injured by a hit-and-run driver in August in Long Beach has succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The accident occurred at about 3:10 p.m., Sunday, August 23, in the parking lot along the 1990 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
According to the police, Leonard Smith, 74, of Long Beach, was struck by a 2000 Cadillac SUV, driven by a 30-year-old man from Lancaster, in unclear circumstances.
Following the collision, the involved driver fled the scene. He later returned to the crash site shortly after police arrived.

Smith was hospitalized with injuries to his lower torso. On September 6, Smith succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The coroner’s officials determined that Smith died of blunt force trauma related to the injuries he suffered in the crash.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
