Lauren Machuca Killed in Car Accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County
Lauren Machuca ID’d as Teen Killed in Ventura County Crash on Pacific Coast Highway near Thornhill Broome Beach

Ventura County, California (November 5, 2020) – Authorities have identified the girl who died in a traffic accident Monday evening south of Mugu Rock in Ventura County as Lauren Machuca, 19, of Mesa, Arizona.
The deadly accident happened at about 4:55 p.m. Monday, November 2, on Pacific Coast Highway, just south of the Thornhill Broome Beach Campground, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, Machuca was driving a 2010 Honda Civic and was stopped on the right shoulder of southbound Pacific Coast Highway when she made a U-turn onto northbound Pacific Coast Highway.
For an unknown reason, the Honda was broadsided by a 2016 BMW that was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway.
The force of the impact sent both vehicles onto the right shoulder of the northbound Pacific Coast Highway.
Machuca was declared dead at the scene while her 19-year-old female passenger, also of Mesa, Arizona, was taken to VCMC with major injuries.
The driver of the BMW, a 57-year-old Harbor City man, was not injured in the crash.
Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the accident.
Police closed both lanes of Pacific Coast Highway as the investigation and clean up took place.
Further details regarding this collision were not available, and the crash remains under investigation.
