Laura Shinn ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in Balboa Park Crash on Pershing Drive near Florida Drive
San Diego, California (July 21, 2021) – Authorities have identified the bicyclist who died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Balboa Park as Laura Shinn, 57. He was a prominent architect and planner who oversaw the planning and design of several San Diego State University facilities.
The deadly bicycle accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, on Pershing Drive near Florida Drive and just south of Morley Field Disc Golf Course.
According to the authorities, a 2011 Prius was traveling northbound on Pershing Drive when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered into a bike lane and rear-ended Shinn, who was also riding his bicycle northbound on Pershing.
Bicyclist Killed in Balboa Park Crash Identified
The authorities who responded to the incident found Shinn unresponsive at the scene. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Prius, Adam Milavetz, 38, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion charges including murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence of drugs. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
