Blythe, California (July 21, 2021) – A traffic accident involving a big rig has claimed the life of a 41-year-old man from Maricopa, Arizona, early Wednesday morning in Blythe, the California Highway Patrol reported.

At around 2:14 a.m., the CHP received a report about the crash on the eastbound side of Interstate 10, just west of Arrowhead Boulevard.

According to the CHP, the Arizona man was outside one of two trucks parked on the shoulder handling mechanical issues when, for unknown reasons, the tractor-trailer veered off the roadway and struck him.

The big then overturned.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the big rig was taken to a local hospital with a head injury. A woman in one of the vehicles complained of pain, but it was unknown if she was taken to the hospital.

Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
