Las Vegas Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 5 in Kern County

Kern County, California (July 27, 2020) – A motorcyclist was killed and another was seriously injured Friday in a traffic accident in Kern County, authorities said.  

The fatal motorcycle crash occurred on Interstate 5, just north of Twisselman Road on July 24.   

According to the California Highway Patrol, a group of motorcyclists was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 in the number one lane when, for unknown reasons, two of the riders collided.  

As a result of the collision, one of the motorcycles, a 2011 Harley Davidson, reportedly veered onto the right shoulder and across the No. 2 lane. The other bike, a 2015 Kawasaki, drifted to the left and collided with a 2004 Toyota driven by Robert Barnard, 63.  

The driver of the Kawasaki, a 33-year-old Las Vegas man, was ejected onto the roadway. Barnard’s car then crossed the median and collided with a 2013 Kia driven by Victoria Villa Gomez, 36.

The 33-year-old Las Vegas man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of family.  

The driver of the Harley Davidson, also from Las Vegas, was transported to Kern Medical Center with moderate injuries.  

Barnard and Gomez were not injured in the crash.  

It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were suspected factors in the crash.  

An investigation into the accident is underway.
